Irina, don't you think that by listening to free music on YouTube you contribute to filesharing as well?

Of course, not. As I've already said, I don't pay these illegal uploaders anything or support them by any other means. And they can't even know whether I watched the files they uploaded or not. Just simple logic and common sense...

And who can honestly say here that they don't use Youtube to investigate new music?

Please don't provoke me to continue this discussion by your questions. Or let's take it to private conversation via e-mail, because this topic is so sore for some people, and I don't want another stupid and needless fight.

The problem is not one person watching a video - the problem is a virtual community of users who make videos with illegally uploaded music in order to provide other people with stuff to listen to. You look at the comments on some of the LAM videos, for example, and people are saying "thanks for posting this, I needed to hear some LAM" or something similar. People do this for a reason- to get attention, or whatever, as others have stated. So the illegal practice grows and becomes viewed as "acceptable" when people "consume" the music.

When the demand is there then these people think it's ok for them to illegally upload music to YouTube. I understand that you sometimes can't help but see illegally uploaded content on YouTube sometimes, and that's not what we're talking about- we're talking about when it's a regular practice to get your music from YouTube rather than legal sources. THAT is like filesharing.

Clearly these people who listen to music on YouTube could listen to a CD or an MP3 they bought, but they chose to get the music for free from YouTube, with the help of others who illegally distribute that music. So the problem is the people uploading stuff with the idea they are providing a service to people by illegally distributing an artist's music. That's the point - the community of people who think filesharing is ok, and who think it's ok for them to upload music they do not own to YouTube.
