Regarding helping promoting LAM, and exposing LAM to other people. Personally, I've never uploaded any music of LAM or any band I listen to, but usually when I'm recommending LAM (or another band) I will link them to a song on youtube. and on forums and such, I will also provide pictures of the band (found on google) or album covers and information in addition to videos. I know that isn't ideal for you and other artists, but I'm certainly not trying to cause any harm by doing that. I consider youtube to be a great tool for promotion and it's probably the most convenient site for people to use, being so quick and easy. Using myspace on the other hand just frustrates people, including myself. So my intent is that I'm trying to expose people to music that they otherwise wouldn't have heard of. I know that there's probably only a small chance they will go and pick up some CDs or support the band but  I'm typically recommending specific bands or songs to particular people that I think will enjoy this kind of music and hope that they will develop a passion for it, which may lead to supporting these bands. I think people these days very much operate on a "I have to see it for myself" mentality and desire some sort of immediacy, and from my observations simply name dropping a band doesn't go very far and neither does anything that seemingly involves too much work for people to check out a band or piece of music.

The radio stations here only play country, pop, generic rock and oldies. The rock station is particularly bad because they only play the same 20 bands all day and they will only play particular singles. At my work the radio is on, and it's always (predictably) the same bands. Even during request hours, they'll still only play requests that people have of the same songs. I'm not sure if it costs them a lot more to play different music but they seem intent on playing it very safe. Any time in the past that I have called in to request a song I like they've just said "we'll see" or "I'll do my best..." or some generic fake answer that is seemingly optimistic. And the TV channel Muchmusic isn't any better. They used to have a show called MuchLoud that was decent for a while but when I would request music videos I like, they often didn't have them in their library and just told me "sorry" and wouldn't do anything about. Even when on numerous occasions I told them how they could improve their show, as they so liked to hear feedback regarding this, this still did nothing. Eventually they cut the length of the show in half to 30 mins so they could show more re-runs of shows from earlier that day. I'm not even sure if that show is still on. Even so, I'm not sure that the people who listen to/watch these stations will enjoy a band like LAM because it isn't a part their usual routine that involves listening to their "familiar favourites" every day. And I really don't know how successful music-related magazines are here in Canada because I don't know anyone who reads magazines aside from sports and the usual.
