Major labels are suffering badly too, which is why music is becoming even more homogenized than it was before on the majors- and less risks taken with new or different artists, indie branches of major labels driven out of business, etc. So a major is now less likely to take a chance on a band like LAM due to the nature of the market now with filesharing such a problem.

Also, majors never really did give all that money for budgets, video, etc. And they do demand you tour. Radio is an entire other nightmare of payola and bribing and monopolies. There is no real way to get radio play without fans requesting it. If fans at least did that it would help so much, but none do.
