It depends on what do you mean by KID ROCK
But if such bands as Tokio Hotel or
Killerpilze are hidden behind this phrase then I absolutely agree with you - painful stuff, rly |

Least favorites: rap/hip-hop, emo, metal where the vocalists sound like drunken monsters rather than people.
Favorites: Metal, goth/gothic rock, anything with that distinctive Finnish sound that I can't really describe. And Kid Rock makes me laugh. |

I dislike categorizing anything, good music is good music and shit is shit, and these can exist in every 'genre'.

I don't dislike any genre, really. I like a song, if it sounds good. it doesn't matter what genre it belongs to.. but that's just me. =D

I am not exactly a fan of this categorising. I used to be very genre specific as in discussing in which tag a specific song or band would use to fit. But then
when expanding my musical horizons I actually realised that the whole tagging is totally unnecessary. Like Sean said in numerous interviews, you are limiting a
band by categorising them. And besides, there are so many cross overs between different genres that some bands simply cannot be categorised even if you try it,
or at least crossed the boundaries of many different styles.
Lets say it like this... Generally I mainly listen to eighties gothic (before gothic became a background element used in mainly metal and other types of music), new wave, and Middle Eastern traditional music (Arabesque as well). But then I dont want to just stick to those, even in genres I generally listen less frequently to (hip hop, jazz, etc) I did hear several songs that I do like a lot. By categorising and tagging, you are limiting yourself and the band. And crossovers between different styles can be extremely nice. Orphaned Land is an example I tend to use because I am a big fan of them: "western" metal combined with Middle Eastern traditional music of both jewish and Arab origin, almost creating their own category of music with that fantastic mix of styles. If bands would try hard to stick to their own tag, we would never had fantastic bands like Orphaned Land who crossed the boundaries of genres and combined genres that usually would not fit together in the mind of many people. Natacha Atlas and Transglobal Underground is another great example: Arab music mixed with western electronic dance of all genres, it may sound somewhat odd but it sounds fantastic. |
